The Basics

• Viral STIs are caused by viruses, which invade and take over cells. 

• HIV is a viral STI. We’ll talk more about HIV in the next module.  

• Inside of cells, the virus can copy itself and then spread to even more cells. 

• Many viral STIs will never show symptoms. Even if there are no symptoms, the virus can still spread.
